SUMMARY:Ayan Sengupta & Sukhvinder Singh Pinky
DESCRIPTION:Darbar Arts Lab | Hayes\, London \nSitar and tabla\, heard up close — Ayan Sengupta and Sukhvinder Singh Pinky in the bhaitak tradition at Darbar Arts Lab. \nSitarist Ayan Sengupta and tabla player Sukhvinder Singh Pinky perform up close at Darbar Arts Lab — Indian classical music in the intimate bhaitak tradition\, beyond the concert hall. \nDarbar Arts Lab you sit close enough to follow every detail: Ayan Sengupta’s fingers shaping each phrase on the sitar\, the exchange between sitar and tabla taking shape in real time\, the small turns a larger hall would lose. This is the bhaitak setting in which Hindustani music was meant to be heard — direct\, immediate\, shared in a small room. Expect a full classical performance built around raga and rhythm\, with room for both lyricism and improvisation as the two musicians respond to one another. The evening closes with a vegetarian meal and refreshments\, a chance to talk with fellow listeners and meet the artists.  \nAyan Sengupta brings a vocal-led approach to the sitar\, shaped by his gurus Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty\, Pandit Manilal Nag and Pandit Kushal Das\, and his playing is known for its melodic depth and technical control. He is joined by Sukhvinder Singh Pinky\, among the most respected tabla players of his generation\, whom Ustad Zakir Hussain called the world’s foremost jori exponent. Pinky brings a Grammy-winning career and decades of performance alongside the leading names in Indian classical music. Together they offer the close\, attentive music-making the bhaitak format is built for.  \nProceeds from this concert support our Darbar Emerging Artists Programme\, nurturing the next generation of Indian classical musicians building their careers in the UK.
