Building a Future for Indian Classical Music

From a small tribute concert in Leicester in 2006, Darbar has grown into a global name in Indian classical music, hosting 19 world-class festivals and reaching one million followers through our digital platforms.

Now, we’re setting our sights on an exciting new chapter: Darbar Arts Works.

This dedicated space will support over 100 emerging musicians with performances, learning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
However, we need your help to bring this vision to life.

Please donate to help us meet our £100,000 target and ensure a vibrant future for Indian classical music.

From humble beginnings starting with a small tribute concert in Leicester in 2006, Darbar has gone on to deliver 19 exceptional festivals of Indian classical music. Working with hundreds of the best musicians, we are synonymous with quality and our work reaches with one million followers globally through our digital channels.

A combination of great ideas, hard work and inspired curation and production equates to the Darbar gold standard. And we are not done yet.  Our vision for the next 10 years is bold. Utilising our brand to elevate UK and international emerging musicians to have a dedicated space – Darbar Arts Works.

Artists face critical challenges - they lack spaces and resources to learn and perform, especially small concerts to receive encouragement from knowledgeable audience members. They need opportunities for professional learning and development against a backdrop of limited government funding and lack of Asian representation in the arts.

Darbar Art Works will be a year-round theatre and studio spaces. Supporting over 100 emerging artists, hosting over 60 performances and 100 learning sessions, artists will also benefit from smaller bhaitak style concerts, masterclasses, music retreats, professional development and much more.

Continuing the work begun by Bhai Gurmit Singh Ji Virdee (1937-2005), an inspirational tabla player and teacher, in whose memory Darbar was founded, we will double our efforts to nurture and train students in their musical journeys.

We need your help to make this vision a reality. Please donate whatever you can to help us meet our shortfall of £100,000. Your donation will help build a future where artists can grow, connect and keep this centuries-old musical tradition alive.

Thank you.
