Join us as we celebrate 20 years of Darbar Festival — honouring Indian classical music and the enduring legacy of Bhai Gurmit Singh ji Virdee’s vision and values.
Spread across two weekends, the festival offers something for every sense. Discover the beauty of ragas and talas, unwind with wellbeing sessions, and immerse yourself in the meditative power of Indian classical music. In the second weekend, we welcome back returning maestros and rising stars. A special highlight is a tribute to the legendary Ustad Zakir Hussain, honouring his immense contribution. The season closes with a deeply personal night dedicated to where it all began — a tribute to Bhai Gurmit Singh ji Virdee.
It is with profound emotion that I welcome you to the 20th anniversary of the Darbar Festival. This milestone represents not just two decades of celebrating the magnificence of Indian classical music, but also honours the enduring legacy of my father, Bhai Gurmit Singh ji Virdee (1937-2005), in whose memory this festival was founded. When we lost my father in 2005, I sought to channel my grief into something that would embody his extraordinary spirit and passion for Indian classical music. My father lived by values of artistic excellence, cultural preservation and selfless sharing of knowledge. These principles became the foundation stones upon which Darbar was built. His belief that music transcends all boundaries and speaks directly to the soul has guided every aspect of Darbar’s journey.
Over these twenty years, Darbar has evolved into a global platform that celebrates the complete spectrum of Indian classical music – from legendary maestros and maestras who carry centuries of tradition in their art to brilliant emerging talents who represent its vibrant future. We have witnessed the mesmerising performances of established legends and discovered extraordinary new voices, creating a musical bridge between generations.

Following his vision, we have created spaces where gharanas (musical lineages) are honoured whilst at the same time, new interpretations are welcomed. Where technical virtuosity meets emotional depth and where artists can share their most authentic musical expressions.
As we gather for this special anniversary, I find myself reflecting on how happy it would have made my father to see artists and audiences united in their love for this timeless tradition. His humility, integrity and unwavering dedication to artistic excellence continue to inspire...
