Indian Slide Guitar (Chaturangi)

Bhattacharya’s innovations in slide guitar technique allowed the instrument to effectively replicate the complex microtones and ornamentations of Indian classical music, which are essential to the character of ragas. 

Debashish Bhattacharya is one of the most influential figures in the world of Indian Slide Guitar. His performances, such as the ones at the Darbar Festival in 2013 and 2018, have showcased his mastery of the instrument. In 2013, Bhattacharya was accompanied by tabla virtuoso Yogesh Samsi, and in 2018, he performed with Sukhvinder Singh. These performances highlighted the versatility of the Indian Slide Guitar within classical music, with Bhattacharya’s profound skill elevating the guitar’s role in traditional Indian music. Through these collaborations, Bhattacharya has contributed significantly to the instrument’s recognition in the Indian classical music world, and his legacy continues to inspire many musicians today.
