Bhauḷi is an upāṅga janyai of the 15th mēḷakartaii Māyāmāḷavagauḷa. It is an auḍava-ṣāḍavaiii rāga. The svarasiv occurring in this rāga are ṣaḍja, śuddha riṣabha, antara gāndhāra, śuddha dhaivata in ascent. In addition, kākali niṣāda occurs in descentv. Its ārōhaṇavi and avarōhaṇavii are

In Western music notation, if C is taken as the base or tonic note, then the scale is

Gāndhāra, dhaivata are rāgachāyā svarasviii. Gāndhāra, pañchama, dhaivata are nyāsa svarasix. Sa-pa, ri-da, ri-pa are vādi-samvādi svaras (consonant notes).
It can portray rasasx like karuṇā (compassion) very effectively, just as it can convey the feeling of devotion or bhakti bhāva. It is generally used to create the effect of early morning.
