Bṛndāvana Sāraṅga is an upāṅga janyai of the 22nd mēḷakartaii Kharaharapriya. It is an auḍavaiii rāga. The svarasiv occurring in this rāga are ṣaḍja, chatuśruti riṣabha, śuddha madhyama, pañchama, kaiśiki niṣādav. Sādhāraṇa gāndhāra occurs as an anusvaravi. In some versions of this rāga, kākali niṣāda occurs in the ārōhaṇa. In such a case, it becomes a bhāṣāṅga janyavii of Kharaharapriya. This is also called Bṛndāvanī. Its ārōhaṇaviii and avarōhaṇaix are
S R2 M1 P N3 Ṡ – Ṡ N2 P M1 R2 S.
In Western music notation, if C is taken as the base or tonic note, then the scale is
C D F G B C – C A# G F D C.
Its scale seems similar to the rāga Madhyamāvati but the embellishments made to the notes gives this rāga a completely different shape. The closest equivalent of this rāga in Hindustani music is Bṛndāvanī Sāraṅg.
Riṣabha and niṣāda are rāgachāyā svarasx. Riṣabha, madhyama, pañcama are nyāsa svarasxi. Sa-ma, sa-pa, ri-pa are vādi-samvādi svaras (consonant notes).
It can portray rasasxii like karuṇā (compassion) very effectively, just as it can convey the feeling of devotion or bhakti bhāva.
