This is named after Gauri, Lord Shiva’s consort. There are several varieties of Raga Gauri but the one with Poorvi Anga is the most popular of them all. This too has two versions wherein one is heptatonic while the other is Audav Sampoorna (five notes in ascent and seven notes in descent).

There is a cluster of ragas that come under the Gauri but all rely on different angas of either Bhairav, Marwa, Pooriya or Shree. The one with Poorvi anga actually employs almost all the angas in a discreet manner. Maestros etch this raga according to their creative innovation.
