Sindhubhairavi is a bhāṣāṅga janyai of the 8th mēḷakartaii Hanumatōḍi. It is a ṣāḍava-sampūrṇaiii rāga. It is probably the only rāga in which all the twelve notes occur. The svarasiv occurring in this rāga in ascent are ṣaḍja, śuddha riṣabha, sādhāraṇa gāndhāra, śuddha madhyama, pañchama, śuddha dhaivata, kaiśiki niṣāda. Chatuśruti riṣabha, antara gāndhāra, prati madhyama, chatuśruti dhaivata, kākali niṣāda which are svaras not found in its own parent rāga Hanumatōḍi, occur in different phrasesv. Its ārōhaṇavi and avarōhaṇavii can be given as

This rāga has been adopted from Hindustāni music. Its Hindustāni equivalent is Raag Bhairavi. It is a rakti rāga or a rāga which pleases instantaneously.
Riṣabha, gāndhāra are rāgachāyā svarasviii. Pañcama is a nyāsa svaraix. Sa-pa, sa-ma1, ri1-da1, ri-pa, ri2-da2, ga2-da1, ga2-ni2 are vādi-samvādi svaras (consonant notes).
It can portray rasasx like karuṇā (compassion) very effectively, just as it can convey the feeling of devotion or bhakti bhāva.
