The 18th Darbar Festival, held from 26–29 October 2023 at London’s Barbican Centre, delivered a spellbinding showcase of Indian classical music, headlined by an electrifying lineup of maestros. Standout performances included the emotive Alam Khan, who opened with a powerhouse sarod recital; the lyrical Ranjani & Gayatri Sisters, offering pristine Carnatic vocals; sitar virtuoso Anupama Bhagwat paired with Hindustani vocalist Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar; and the morning bansuri duet by Pravin Godkhindi and Shashank Subramanyam, accompanied by tabla and ghatam. The festival thoughtfully wove together Hindustani and Carnatic traditions, intergenerational exchanges, and immersive wellness experiences like guided meditations, yogabliss, and breathwork—creating a deeply moving and transformative celebration of melody and rhythm.
