Darbar Festival 2022
The 17th Darbar Festival ran from 13–16 October 2022 at London’s Barbican Centre, marking a jubilant return to live gatherings post-pandemic. The festival showcased an inspiring blend of legendary performers and emerging talent, including Purbayan Chatterjee (sitar), Rakesh Chaurasia (flute), Satyajit Talwalkar (tabla), Patri Satish Kumar (mridangam), the Wahane Sisters (Carnatic vocals), Sabir Khan (sarangi), Bharathi Prathap, Rajrupa Chowdhury, Uday Bhawalkar (vocal), and the captivating santoor virtuoso Eeshar Singh with Yashwant Vaishnav on tabla. A standout double bill featured a mesmerizing sitar–flute duet by Chatterjee and Chaurasia that transported the audience through ragas Behag and Desh, while Shubha Mudgal’s performance of a late-evening raga Chhayanat added emotional depth with her luminous voice. The festival also embraced immersive experiences such as live-music yoga and breathwork sessions, weaving together melody, rhythm, and wellness into an enchanting and transformative celebration.
