Darbar Festival 2019
The Darbar Festival 2019 took place from October 5 to November 26, 2019, transforming major London venues like the Barbican Centre and Sadler’s Wells into hubs for Indian classical arts. This edition of the festival was uniquely co-curated by choreographer Akram Khan, who shifted the focus toward large-scale ensemble dance alongside its world-class musical line-up. Performers included legendary santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, sitar virtuosos Budhaditya Mukherjee and Ustad Shahid Parvez, and the celebrated Carnatic vocalist Sudha Ragunathan. The roster also featured violin star Kala Ramnath, the Gundecha Brothers (Dhrupad), and flute player Pravin Godkhindi. In the realm of dance, the line-up was led by Madhavi Mudgal (Odissi), Nahid Siddiqui (Kathak), and Mavin Khoo, who led the Temple of Fine Arts ensemble.
