Darbar Festival 2018
In 2018, we curated one of our most ambitious Darbar Festivals, transforming London’s Barbican Centre and Sadler’s Wells into a global stage for Indian classical arts. Held across October and November, the season was a masterclass in musical depth and physical grace. On the music stage (25–28 October), we were honoured to present the legendary Begum Parveen Sultana and the sitar virtuoso Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. From the meditative Dhrupad of Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar to a powerful tabla solo by Sanju Sahai, we celebrated the full spectrum of Hindustani and Carnatic traditions. Our dance programme (23–25 November), co-curated with Akram Khan, featured the world premiere of Mavin Khoo’s Man to Monk and standout performances by Sujata Mohapatra and Gauri Diwakar. Broadcast later on Sky Arts, this festival remains a definitive moment in our mission to share these timeless art forms with the world.
